Marco Rubio tore into Debbie Wasserman Schultz for her “despicable attack,” adding also that her attack is a sign of “panic” setting in within Democratic circles as troubles continue to consume Hillary Clinton.
Rubio’s response came the day after the Democratic National Committee head released a misleading statement hitting him for planning to attend a fundraiser at a home containing Nazi artifacts.
“Well, it didn’t surprise me. I’ve been watching Debbie Wasserman Schultz for years in Florida. On top of her political extremism, she tends to do these sorts of things. I was outraged because this is a private citizen — an individual that participates in the political process who, anyone who knows him for two seconds realizes he’s not a Nazi sympathizer.”
Rubio explained what many outlets reported after the DNC chair’s statement: Harlan Crow (the owner) collects historical artifacts from all time periods. Specifically, Crow owns materials from the times of Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as well as Joseph Stalin and Saddam Hussein, as Fox host Bill O’Reilly pointed out. The Florida senator also pointed out that Crow’s mother also survived an attack from a German U-Boat.
“It is a despicable attack, and you what the evidence of that is? Even liberal media outlets have critized her for doing that,” Rubio explained. “Don’t expect an apology, they just move on. They don’t feel like they’re accountable to anybody for it.”
“But I also think it’s indicative of the levels of desperation that have now entered the Democratic Party,” Rubio told O’Reilly. “Their front-runner is in a lot of trouble, as we’ve been seeing in the news over the last few days and I think this is a further sign of that sort of desperation that they’re now facing. Panic, really.”
The 2016 hopeful went on to pan Wassserman Schultz for worrying about her outlandish attacks of this variety instead of her support of the Iran nuclear deal.
“That’s what really matters. But she didn’t care about that,” Rubio said. “Instead, she’s playing these sorts of vicious politlical games. I think she only hurts herself and her cause when they do it.”
In her Wednesday statement, Wasserman Schultz called Rubio’s plan to attend the event a “gross act of disrespect.”
“Mr. Rubio, who by the way, represents a sizable Jewish population in our home state of Florida, should cancel this tasteless fundraiser,” said Wasserman Schultz.
