Donald Trump reacted to California Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s withdrawal from the House speaker race Thursday by suggesting his daughter jump in the race.
Despite admitting last week that he doesn’t know McCarthy personally, the Republican presidential front-runner responded with glee on Twitter within minutes of the House Majority Leader’s unexpected announcement.
Great, Kevin McCarthy drops out of SPEAKER race. We need a really smart and really tough person to take over this very important job!

“He is not off to a great start,” Trump told MSNBC last Friday in reference to McCarthy’s bid for the speakership.
Trump also responded to a follower’s endorsement of his business-savvy daughter, Ivanka, for House speaker. Under the Constitution, the speaker of the House is not legally required to be an elected member of Congress.
“@Moonwkr: @realDonaldTrump I would like to nominate @IvankaTrump for Speaker of the House” What a great idea, she is a total winner! (Nice)

With McCarthy’s abrupt departure from the race, the nomination process was postponed Thursday. Two other congressmen, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz and Florida Rep. Daniel Webster, currently remain in the race.
