Face off: Dueling D.C. ‘Real World’ premiere parties?

Just a few months ago, it seemed like most D.C. residents despised MTV’s “The Real World” for bringing cameras into bars, making partygoers sign STD/nondisclosure waivers and getting rowdy in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.

But now that the cameras are gone, contention has shifted from spats with the cast to rivalry over who is throwing the best premier party Wednesday night.

When Yeas & Nays received an invite from MetromixDC’s Real World DC premiere party, we noticed some heated language in the event’s description:

“Congratulations — you made it past all those *other* ‘Real World DC’ parties that have popped up and are in the right place for D.C.’s official ‘Real World DC’ Premiere Party and official VIP After Party … We’ve got the most cast members including Ashley, Callie, Ty, Emily and host of the VIP After Party, Mike.”

Even further, co-host and “Real World D.C.” blogger Christopher Wiggins posted this message on his Facebook wall Tuesday: “Amused to now see 5+ ‘premiere’ events whose promoters all claim to have ‘special guests.’ Truth is: only 2 DC events have cast members: The joint OFFICIAL event I’m co-hosting at BlackFinnDC & then Halo with DC Metromix (5 cast members, maybe 6) Then, there’s another event that a friend is having (cast member count: … 1) That leaves one cast member who’s staying home. It’s just a reality show! Wow!”

Glittarazzi blogger Kelly Ann Collins is hosting a “Real World” premiere party at Tattoo bar on K Street on Wednesday night, featuring cast member Josh Colon and his D.C. rock band, Wicked Liquid.

“I’m the friend he was talking about that has one with one cast member,” Collins told Yeas & Nays. “I’m definitely not worried, because his party is definitely different than mine.”

Hipster social networking site Bright Young Things also is throwing a “Real World” premier party at Nellie’s Sports Bar on U Street without cast members.

Yeas & Nays will split up Wednesday night to settle the score. Check back Monday to see who got a “yea” and who got a “nay.”
