Three Afghan officers go missing in Cape Cod

Three Afghanistan army officers went missing from Camp Edwards, a National Guard base on Cape Cod, Mass., over the weekend.

Maj. Jan Mohammad Arash, Capt. Mohammad Nasir Askarzada and Capt. Noorullah Aminyar were last seen in an off-base mall on Cape Cod on Saturday, Massachusetts National Guard Col. James Sahady told the Boston Herald.

“There is no indication that they pose any threat to the public,” Sahady said.

The Massachusetts National Guard did not immediately return a Washington Examiner request for comment.

The missing trio were participating in a “senior professional command staff exercise” that consists of 200 servicemen from six countries, according to Sahady, who said the three arrived in Massachusetts on Sept. 11 for the program, which began Sept. 17 and continues through Wednesday.

Concerns about so-called blue-on-green attacks have increased over the last month since a lone Afghan gunman ambushed more than a dozen Western soldiers visiting the Afghanistan National Military Academy in Kabul.

U.S. Army Major Gen. Harold Greene was killed in the attack, making him the highest-ranking officer killed by enemy fire overseas since Vietnam.
