Donald Trump on Thursday mocked New Hampshire’s largest newspaper as “desperate, stupid & unethical” after they asked him to advertise in a special election edition of the paper.
Trump has been warring with the Union Leader for a few weeks now, after publisher Joe McQuaid came out against the candidate in an editorial. Trump called McQuaid a “low-life,” and started calling the Union Leader a failing paper.
Thursday morning, Trump posted an email he got on Tuesday from the Union Leader asking Trump to advertise in a special edition. “This is a perfect edition for all candidates to be part of,” the email said. “I really hope you will consider running an ad.”
But Trump was having none of it.
“The failing @UnionLeader newspaper in N.H. just sent The Trump Organization a letter asking that we take ads. How stupid, how desperate!” Trump tweeted on Thursday morning.

Until this week, Trump had not taken out a single television or newspaper ad, and was running entirely on his own money and radio ads. But on Jan. 4, the candidate spent $500,000 on television ads in New Hampshire.
Despite his lack of advertising, Trump leads the field in New Hampshire by a large 14-point margin, with 27 percent of the potential vote before the Feb. 9 caucus. He’s current in second place in the Washington Examiner‘s power rankings.
