Fifth column
Republicans haven’t exactly been abundant this weekend (at least relatively speaking). But Republicans from Hollywood? That, friends, is what we call a minority of a minority.
Yet there were two of them Sunday night at a VIP reception at the Kuwaiti ambassador’s residence, co-sponsored by none other than Mayor Adrian Fenty.
They were actress and former pinup sensation Bo Derek, and Marc Cherry, creator of “Desperate Housewives.”
Cherry explained that he and Derek are both members of the “Friends of Abe,” an underground group of Hollywood conservatives.
So what brings him to the East Coast with all these Democrats? “Some of my Republican friends are going to give me s— when they find out I was at this Democrat event,” he explained. “But for 40-plus years, I was poor and unfamous, so I better take advantage of it.”
Also spotted at the ambassador’s residence: Justice Stephen Breyer, Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey, rapper/producer Jermaine DuPri, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and his pal, NoVa real estate mogul Joe Robert Jr. and — get this — former California Gov. Gray Davis, the man who was recalled to make way for Arnold Schwarzenegger.
