Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who is eyeing a 2016 gubernatorial run, issued a strong threat to America’s enemies Thursday.
Manchin’s comments came amid a discussion of a wide range of topics at a constituent meeting Tuesday in Charleston, W.V. — especially foreign policy, in which he struck a mostly moderate tone.
“Would you rather negotiate for peace or declare war?” Manchin said about the recently reached Iran nuclear deal. “We’ve been pretty quick on declaring war. We declared on Iraq — that didn’t work real well.”
In terms of finding peace in the Middle East, Manchin added, “We in Congress have to be involved.”
But more importantly is how the Democrat ended the event: “If you screw with America, we’ll kill you.”
