NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell disputes being the target of a scolding over “manners” from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Wednesday during a meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Mitchell told the Washington Examiner it was actually her colleague Carol Morello, a Washington Post State Department correspondent, who was the “brave” journalist who started shouting questions during the meeting that spurred Lavrov’s chastisement.

In response to the shouted question, Lavrov asked, “Who gave you your manners?”
Mitchell said she was on the opposite side of the room, standing behind Lavrov when he made the remark, out of the foreign minister’s eyesight.
“Perhaps I was a convenient foil, but I’m pretty sure I wasn’t his target,” Mitchell said.
