Warren strikes out on Red Sox question

Apparently Democrats like Elizabeth Warren aren’t into sports — at least that was the impression that she and other respondents gave when they couldn’t answer a Red Sox question at a general forum on Tuesday. When asked “in what years did the Red Sox win the World Series in this century,” Warren gave the wrong answer — 2004 and 2008 — when the Red Sox actually won in 2004 and 2007 (her answer was closer than any of the other participants, though).

Warren is running for Senate in Massachusetts against Republican incumbent Scott Brown, who took over the late Ted Kennedy’s seat after a special election in 2010. She is campaigning largely on her support of comprehensive financial reform, and for now, Warren is enjoying a slight lead over Brown going into the race, but she may want to brush up on her sports trivia. This seeming disconnect with her home-state’s sports fans may hurt her the way it did Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley — who became the butt of jokes and derision from voters after she called Red Sox World Series pitcher Curt Schilling “another Yankee fan” before losing the race to Brown in 2010.
