Things got a little steamy on the upper courtyard of Cafe Milano at the Washington Life Magazine Countdown to the Oscars event.
A fire broke out on the patio Thursday night from a malfunctioning popcorn machine.
Luckily celebrity photographer Tony Powell was aware of the hot mess. He used his ninjalike skills to stamp out the fire with one hand while juggling his camera in the other.
Within seconds of extinguishing the flames, the pro was back to snapping pictures of partygoers as if the debacle never happened at all.
“It’s not the first fire I’ve put out!” Powell told Yeas & Nays. “I had to make sure there was a party to shoot, and I wasn’t about to miss a shot. Call it self-preservation!”
Also spotted at the party: Andy Baldwin of “The Bachelor” with former CBS reporter Susan Roberts. When Yeas & Nays called Roberts to see whether the two were an item, Roberts said, “I’m sure Andy dates a lot of girls, so I wouldn’t say that I’m seeing Andy exclusively or anything else.”
Roberts said Baldwin plans to move to La Jolla, Calif., so she is “just his friend.”
When we asked the “Bachelor” if he was dating Roberts, he e-mailed back simply: “No.”
