D.C. social mavens Susanna Quinn, Katherine Kennedy, Elizabeth Thorp and Alexe Nowakowski gathered at Ginger Boutique in downtown Bethesda to celebrate the idea of social celebrities at a book party for Bridie Clark’s latest, “The Overnight Socialite.”
Chats at the boutique Thursday revolved around the changing of the guard with socialites, which Clark defines in her book.
“Generations ago, you wanted to keep your name out of the newspapers it was really about promoting civic good …” Clark told Yeas & Nays. “I think there is a trend now of going out to be photographed and sort of becoming famous …”
Even though the game is changing, Clark said she thinks it’s harmless.
“It’s fun to see your photograph and to get dressed up in beautiful clothes.”
In “The Overnight Socialite,” Clark writes about a social experiment akin to the movie “Pretty Woman”: A train wreck turns socialite with the right grooming and connections in New York City.
