Adding to the turmoil surrounding his campaign, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has closed the doors to his South Carolina headquarters.
Katon Dawson, who serves as Perry’s state chairman, confirmed to CNN that the campaign’s office in Columbia has closed down, with the campaign staff moved out and temporarily working out of his own offices at Dawson Public Affairs.
“The Perry campaign was in the building for about 60 days, since the beginning of the summer,” Dawson said. The campaign chair also pointed out that he has not been paid by the campaign in “20 to 30 days,” though he continues to work for Perry on a volunteer basis.
The latest news comes about a month after the Perry campaign announced that it would no longer be paying his staff nationwide. According to Patrick Svitek of the Texas Tribune, Perry currently has five staffers in the Palmetto State, four of whom are working as volunteers.
The news of Perry’s campaign office in the state also comes on the heels of state GOP Chairman Matt Moore expressing concerns over the viability of the former Texas governor’s campaign. Last week, Moore told the Charleston Post and Courier that “Rick Perry is on life support” in the state.
