Baca loves Palmer — the man and the drink

Rep. Joe Baca, D.-Calif., made it clear Tuesday on the House floor that he has one serious man crush on golf legend Arnold Palmer.

“It was like a dream come true,” Baca recalled about a golf game he had with Palmer a few years back.  “I had to pinch myself to make sure that this wasn’t just a dream.”

“Walking these 18 holes with him will forever be one of my greatest moments in life, besides, of course, marrying my wife and having my four children,” he added adorningly in his speech before the successful passage of his resolution to give a Congressional Gold Medal to Palmer.

He even couldn’t stop gushing over his idol’s namesake drink. “The Arnold Palmer…That’s a great drink for those of you who haven’t had [one]. I’m not soliciting, asking you to go out and do that, but that’s great. It’s a good drink to get when you’re out on the golf course.”

The resolution passed 422-1 on Tuesday night. Only Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, voted “no,” while Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., voted “present.”
