Cruz slams Trump for his ‘New York values’

Sen. Ted Cruz has spent the past week responding to Donald Trump’s comments about his Canadian birthplace, but Cruz went on the offensive Tuesday night, attacking the Manhattan billionaire as someone who “embodies New York values.”

New England radio host Howie Carr asked Cruz Tuesday how he felt about Trump’s playing Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” at a rally since it may have been intended as a jab at Cruz.

“I think he may shift in his rallies to play ‘New York, New York,’ because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values,” Cruz told Carr, referencing Frank Sinatra’s hit song.

The first-term Texas senator also gave a new response to Trump’s December remarks that “not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba.”

Cruz, ranked second to first-place Trump in the Washington Examiner’s presidential power rankings, said the business mogul was welcome to visit his church if it would convince the billionaire that he was an evangelical.

But Cruz added Trump’s attacks on his religion was indicative of a bigger issue.

“Any time someone is attacking your faith that starts to suggest they’re getting really nervous about what’s happening in the race,” said Cruz.
