Obamas give MacBooks to D.C. charity as royal wedding gift

A local charity is directly benefiting from the President and first lady’s wedding gift to the royal couple.

The group, PeacePlayers International, founded by Washingtonians Brendan and Sean Tuohey, was the only U.S.-based charity to be chosen for the Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund. (Instead of wedding presents, the royal couple had asked those wishing to celebrate their nuptials to give to 26 charities of their choosing.)

On Tuesday, the President and Michelle Obama briefly met with Prince William and Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace. Shortly thereafter, those at PeacePlayers International were informed by the White House that the Obamas would be donating six MacBook notebook computers to the organization’s program in Northern Ireland, as a gift to the newly-married royal couple.

Started by two basketball-playing brothers from D.C., PeacePlayers International uses the sport to unite kids who live in conflict zones around the world.
