Sanders: climate deal doesn’t go far enough

Bernie Sanders swiftly critiqued the final draft of the climate deal proposed in Paris Saturday.

“While this is a step forward, it goes nowhere near far enough,” Sanders said, adding “The planet is in crisis.”

Sanders’ statement continues a line of attack that put him squarely to the left of the administration and Hillary Clinton on climate change. In the past, Sanders has linked climate change to terrorism.

The administration’s deal in France wasn’t Sanders’ only target Saturday, as the senator from Vermont also took the opportunity to criticize the Republicans.

“In the United States we have a Republican Party which is much more interested in contributions from the fossil fuel industry than they care about the future of the planet,” the Democratic presidential candidate said.

Last week, Republican candidate Chris Christie suggested the Paris conference was a ploy by President Obama to win a second Nobel Prize.
