The House is likely to take up bipartisan spending legislation to help the federal government combat the spread of the Zika virus, Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday.
Ryan told reporters he is awaiting a proposal from the Obama administration that House appropriators will then examine. “We do anticipate some kind of bipartisan action on this,” Ryan, R-Wis., said.
The Obama administration announced earlier this week it will seek $1.8 billion from Congress to battle the virus, which is spreading via mosquito in Central and South America and has been diagnosed in the United States.
Ryan said House lawmakers are expecting a briefing from the administration about the request.
