Hillary Clinton loyalist James Carville is defending the Democratic presidential front-runner from a Washington Post reporter who questioned whether she’s a “good” candidate.
On Tuesday, Post politics blogger Chris Cillizza wrote that Clinton “is in the midst of a full-scale Democratic freakout due to her faltering poll numbers and ongoing questions about how she has handled her private e-mail server.”
Citing a few unnamed Democratic operatives, Cillizza said, “she still doesn’t appear to ‘get it’ as a candidate.”
Carville responded with a blog post on the pro-Clinton “Correct the Record” website. “Question: Does anybody edit that newspaper?” he wrote. “Could The Washington Post please get any high school student editor in the Washington [area] to read its stories and determine if they even pass the laugh test?”
Carville continued, “The media frenzy surrounding Hillary Clinton’s email is bordering on ridiculous.” He advised Clinton supporters “to pay no attention to the ‘full-scale Democratic freakout’ or any other goofy stories written by a fear-mongering media.”
In recent weeks, Clinton, entangled in a controversy over her questionable email practices during her tenure as secretary of state and has seen her poll numbers decline, while her Democratic opponent Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, has seen his rise.
Clinton has a 44 percent favorable rating among all Americans, according to a CNN poll released Wednesday. Sanders is at 35 percent.
Neither Cillizza nor a spokesperson for the Post returned requests for comment by the Washington Examiner media desk.
