President Obama weighed in on the sex-charged controversy engulfing Republican Donald Trump’s campaign.
Campaigning Sunday in Chicago for Democrat Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who is running for a Senate seat, Obama said, “One of the most disturbing things about this election is just the unbelievable rhetoric coming at the top of the Republican ticket. I don’t need to repeat it. There are children in the room.”
He also said Trump’s penchant for insulting others shows he’s “insecure.”
“But demeaning women, degrading women, but also minorities, immigrants, people of other faiths, mocking the disabled, insulting our troops, insulting our veterans,” Obama said, referring to Trump’s past comments. “That tells you a couple things. It tells you he is insecure enough that he pumps himself up by putting other people down.”
A video from 2005 resurfaced on Friday and showed Trump making vulgar comments about women. He has since apologized and called his past remarks “foolish.”
