Trump campaign slams ex-staffers’ super PAC: ‘These guys are scam artists’

Donald Trump’s campaign manager vigorously defended the campaign’s anti-big money attitude Thursday, shortly after an ex-Trump adviser launched a super PAC to take down the billionaire’s strongest competitors in the Republican presidential field.

“We sent a cease-and-desist letter to this PAC in October and want nothing to do with this,” Corey Lewandowski told The Hill.

“These guys are scam artists doing it for their own personal benefit and seeking to profiteer off Trump’s name. People should not give to this or any other super-PAC claiming to support Donald Trump for president,” he added.

Lewandowski also reportedly described the Committee to Restore America’s Greatness PAC as a “big league scam.”

The PAC, created by Trump’s former political adviser Roger Stone, first filed with the Federal Election Committee in October, but was virtually inactive until this week — minus a few Facebook posts here and there. Stone said Thursday he only plans to accept small-dollar donations, refusing to take money from the same special interest groups Trump routinely chastises in his stump speeches, and will not be releasing advertisements promoting Trump.

“Any corporate or business contributions will be returned,” the PAC’s website clearly states.

Still, Lewandowski highlighted his boss’ previous disavowal of outside support groups backing his White House bid and said Stone’s efforts will be treated no differently.

“No one from the campaign has spoken to him since he was fired in August,” Lewandowski said.
