Blue Bell Creameries is now recalling all of its ice cream products due to fears they were contaminated with a deadly bacteria.
The Texas company began recalling products in March. Although Blue Bell initially recalled only a few brands, it has now expanded the recall to include yogurts, sherbert and all other products, the creamery said late Monday.
Listeria is a bacteria that can kill old, young and frail people and sicken healthy people. It can also cause pregnant women to miscarry.
The initial recall focused on products from an Oklahoma plant. But the creamery said Monday that cookie dough ice cream also tested positive for listeria and it was made at a different facility.
The Centers for Disease Control reported Monday that Blue Bell products are the source of an outbreak that has stricken ten people in the states of Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. Three people in Kansas reportedly died from listeriosis.
