Obama finds trouble hitting drives with comedian Larry David

Kicking off the first full-day of his two-week vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama is playing golf with actor-comedian Larry David, according to pool reports.

David is the co-creator of the popular “Seinfeld” comedy television series and later the creator and lead actor of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” In recent years, he has taken a break from TV and has done some acting on Broadway.

In the “Curb” series, David, who portrayed a fictional version of himself following the success of “Seinfeld,” could often be found on the green, hitting drives and causing comedic havoc. His character is known for being hapless, ornery and impatient.

As press pooler Michael Shear of the New York Times was brought close to the president’s game, he found Larry David stuck in a sand trap. After a swing that “brought a bunch of sand along with the ball,” reported Shear, in an attempt to hit his ball back onto the green “Mr. David let out a yell of disappointment, perhaps because it didn’t come close to the hole.”

The president took his turn next. After hitting the ball with his putter, and as it approached the hole, “POTUS leaned back on one leg, raising the other leg up as if to will the ball to fall in,” Shear reported. “It did not.”

Also playing with the president: Cyrus Walker, cousin of White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, and Robert Wolf.
