AMES, Iowa — Hundreds of Iowans cheered while ACDC’s “Back in Black” blasted from the loudspeakers inside the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa and Gov. Terry Branstad walked on stage.
“Who has the strong and bold ideas that will beat Barack Obama in Iowa and all across America?” Branstad shouted to the riled-up crowd at the Ames straw poll’s main event.
Iowa Republican Party chairman Matt Strawn said Obama won’t recieve a warm welcome next week when the president plans to visit the state.
“Mr. President, you will encounter a very different Iowa than was here in 2008,” he said. “First of all, Mr. President, you will find that there are a lot more Republicans around.”
Before Strawn walked on stage, a video played portraying President Obama as a failed and frustrated leader to a soundtrack of doomsday music.
Iowans cheered as Strawn told the crowd that they will determine Obama’s fate.
“We cannot afford four more years of the Obama administration,” he said. “Make no mistake [Obama] your path to a second term will end and it will end here in Iowa and that process starts today.”
