Clinton ‘surprised’ another official would use private email at State

Hillary Clinton seemed confused in 2011 by another official who was using his personal email while working at the State Department, even though she too was using her own private email account and private server.

In February of 2011, John Godfrey sent an email to Clinton detailing a suggested plan to handle international assistance and governance following the fall of leader Moammar Gadhafi. Godfrey offered suggested roles for the United Nations, ideas for U.S. humanitarian assistance, military assistance, civilian relief and assistance, oil and gas infrastructure, religious leaders, tribal leadership, governing structures and constitution drafting, among other items.

One of Clinton’s top advisers, Jake Sullivan, forwarded the secretary of state Godfrey’s suggestions, recommending that she take a look at his proposals, to which Clinton questioned whether he works at the State Department.

“Who does he work for now?” Clinton asked.

“Us,” Sullivan replied.

“Is he NEA currently? Or was he in Embassy? I was surprised that he used a personal email account if he is at State,” Clinton asked.

Years later, Clinton continues to be dogged by her own use of personal email. The 2011 email was released early Friday morning by the State Department, which has released thousands of Clinton’s personal emails pursuant to a court order.
