Sen. Ben Sasse voted early in his state’s presidential primary for his Republican colleague Sen. Ted Cruz.
Sasse, known for being a #NeverTrump supporter, tweeted early Friday afternoon that he and his wife cast their presidential primary ballots early for the Texas senator.
“Happy to report that Melissa and I just early-voted for @tedcruz to #StopTrump,” Sasse wrote, adding, “Time for conservatives to unite here in winner-take-all Nebr[aska],” he tweeted.

Sasse has been vocal about his opposition to Trump for months, posting on Facebook in February that he would not vote for Trump even if he were to win the nomination.
“My current answer for who I would support in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is: Neither of them,” he said in the Feb. 29 post. “I sincerely hope we select one of the other GOP candidates, but if Donald Trump ends up as the GOP nominee, conservatives will need to find a third option.”
Nebraska’s May 10 primary is winner-take-all with 36 delegates at stake. It is closed to non-Republican voters. Sasse, a freshman senator, appeared at various campaign events with Cruz leading up to the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucus but stopped short of a formal endorsement.
