‘Congress on Facebook’ launches

Sure, members of Congress have gotten their act together — slowly — and jumped on Facebook, but now Facebook is keeping tabs on them.

On Thursday, the site announced a new “Congress on Facebook” page, which will showcase the most innovative uses of Facebook coming from Capitol Hill, and point users to articles featuring what members of Congress are saying about Facebook and about online political activism in general.

“More than 300 members of Congress use Facebook in an official capacity to communicate and connect with their constituents, and we’re excited to showcase some of the most innovative uses of our platform on Capitol Hill,” Facebook public policy director Tim Sparapani said in a statement. “We hope this will encourage even more use of social technologies like Facebook by politicians and government agencies to interact with and serve their constituents.”

Facebook also has a Facebook and Government page, which allows users to see what federal agencies are up to on the popular social networking site.
