So what if his popular menu items include fried chicken, fried oysters and french fries?
Art & Soul owner and chef Art Smith will sit down with his former boss Oprah Winfrey and alongside Drs. Mehmet Oz and Ian Smith on Thursday to talk healthy eating.
The portly celebrity chef and owner of the Capitol Hill eatery has dieted in a big way and lost 85 pounds. He previously told Yeas & Nays he was inspired by the Obamas, for whom he sometimes cooks, to drop the weight.
“One thing I’ve always noted and admired about them is their consciousness about health,” he said back in November, when he was down about 50 pounds. Yeas & Nays was told Art Smith decided to change his lifestyle last summer when he was diagnosed with early onset of Type 2 diabetes. He will discuss the disease on the show.
He and Winfrey also will discuss Smith’s “party” day, where he eats his old fatty favorites — like fried chicken — one day a week.
In conjunction with the interview, the restaurant will add healthier food items to the menu, too, like an egg white frittata and steel cut oatmeal.
