CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Tuesday dismissed criticism that he is too chummy with the Obama administration after a 2013 email was released in which he congratulated John Podesta for his new job.
In the email, which was made public Tuesday in a batch of emails hacked by WikiLeaks, Tapper wrote to Podesta in December 2013, “Congratulations on the pending appointment … I don’t suppose you’d want to come on my show on CNN to talk about what you hope to accomplish?”
He ended by wishing Podesta “happy holidays.”
The email was posted on the conservative website “American Mirror” and featured a prominent link on the influential right-leaning Drudge Report.
“It’s just one big happy family in the elite corridors of Washington, D.C., isn’t it?” wrote Kyle Olson, editor of American Mirror.
Tapper on Twitter sarcastically dismissed the contents of the email.
“Crap. Being polite. THIS IS THE REAL OCTOBER SURPRISE,” Tapper wrote Tuesday.

Podesta now chairs Democrat Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president and it’s clear things were not actually as cozy between him and Tapper.
In another leaked email, this one from June 2015, Podesta asks other Clinton campaign staffers, “Why is Jake Tapper such a dick?”
