Caitlyn Jenner clarified her supposed endorsement of Ted Cruz Wednesday by saying she never explicitly threw her support behind the Texas senator.
“I never said I endorsed Ted Cruz,” Jenner said during the E! International press junket. “I said I liked him. He is a constitutionalist, and I think we need to get our country back to something like that.”
In a March interview with the Advocate, Jenner also used the word “like” to describe her feelings for Cruz. She added that she would like to be Cruz’s “trans ambassador” if he were to become president.
But Jenner reiterated her concern about Cruz’s stances on LGBT issues.
“Now out of all the candidates, I also feel that as far as as the LGBT community, he’d probably be the worst and need the most help,” she said. “From that standpoint, there’d be a lot of issues like that.”
“And so, we have to keep our country strong and a good constitutional country. That’s one of the reasons I liked him, his views to fix the country. Not his views on trans issues,” she concluded.
The “I Am Cait” star also discussed her view on Donald Trump, mostly expressing her confusion about what he truly believes on many key issues.
“Honestly, I have not figured out what Donald Trump, on so many of the issues, where he’s at,” Jenner said. “I think that’s very difficult. Honestly, I just don’t know.”
“When I listen to him talk, he talks about this and that,” she continued. “He’ll be great for women’s issues, he says, but then he doesn’t say how. So I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”
