New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will stump Monday for one of his potential competitors in the 2016 Republican presidential nomination: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Christie’s first visit to Wisconsin this year as chairman of the Republican Governors Association will be to a manufacturing firm with Walker in Hudson.
The two have been friends since 2010, when Walker was running for re-election and Christie campaigned for him at least three times, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Walker is now in a tight re-election race against Democrat Mary Burke; a RealClearPolitics average of polls has Walker ahead by just 1.2 points.
With elections less than six weeks away, Christie’s RGA travel schedule is at a high point: He will also campaign for Ohio GOP Gov. John Kasich in Akron, Ohio, Monday before finishing the week in Scottsdale, Ariz., at an RGA fundraiser and a luncheon for Colorado GOP candidate Bob Beauprez in Denver.
“I’ll keep you all busy,” Christie said of his RGA reschedule last week. “I will be campaigning a lot.”
Christie, who has been stumping for GOP candidates nonstop the past few weeks, is the leading potential 2016 presidential nominee: He leads the field with 11.5 points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
