Former President George W. Bush called Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a “brilliant jurist” and said he was mourning the death of the 79-year-old justice.
Bush, whose father was vice president when Scalia was appointed to the court in 1986, said Scalia was an important American.
“He was a towering figure and important judge on our nation’s highest court,” Bush said. “He brought intellect, good judgment and wit to the bench, and he will be missed by his colleagues and our country. Laura and I send our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his wife, Maureen, and their nine children and the entire Scalia family.”
Scalia was reportedly found dead on a West Texas ranch quail hunting Friday and was found dead Saturday morning after he didn’t show up for breakfast. He was 79.
Scalia has been one of the most prominent voices on the Supreme Court since he began serving in 1986.
