Fox News is ending the contracts of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and ex-Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum as the two take steps to enter the 2012 presidential race.
This news comes after the two were suspended by the network for 60 days after publicly flirting with White House runs, and their contracts were set to automatically expire by May 1 if they didn’t inform the network of their plans.
But now it seems they’re informing everyone. Santorum announced the formation of his exploratory commitee on Tuesday, officially registering with the Federal Election Commission before heading to South Carolina for the first Republican presidential debate on Thursday. Gingrich skipped the debate, but he’s opened his campaign headquarters in Atlanta and is expected to speak at the Georgia Republican Party’s convention next Friday.
Still on the Fox News payroll, however, are other potential 2012 campaigners including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin and former ambassador John Bolton.
