Obama goes Chris Rock on the GOP

President Obama on Monday borrowed a few lines from a famous R-rated comedian to mock Republicans, and said passing a budget and avoiding a possible default on the debt is like saying, “I take care of my kids.”

That’s a line from a Chris Rock routine in which he makes fun of some parents for bragging about fulfilling the basic role they were meant to fulfill.

“I wish John Boehner hadn’t waited until he was leaving to decide to work with us on this, but I want to give credit where credit is due,” Obama said at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee dinner in New York, according to a pool report of the event.

Still, he said Rock’s routine reminds him that no one should be bragging.

“I am reminded, because I think I’m going to see Chris Rock over at the event we’re doing in Hamilton, of Chris Rock’s standup concert,” Obama added. “Now, I can’t quote him directly because it’s not family-friendly.”

“But there’s a whole sequence where he starts talking about guys bragging about doing things they’re supposed to do anyway,” Obama said to laughter. “It’s like, ‘I take care of my kids.’ I mean, you’re supposed to take care of your kids.”

“There is an element of a low bar of passing a budget and making sure the full faith and credit of the United States of America is sustained,” he said.

Obama also mocked Republicans for talking tough about how they’d be better presidents than Obama, but then complaining about debate moderators.

“And then, it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators at a debate!” he said.
