Campaign: Sanders shown being arrested in 1963 protest

Bernie Sanders’ campaign is circulating a film it says shows the candidate being arrested at a 1963 anti-segregationist rally.

The release comes days before the Democratic South Carolina primary, held Feb. 23, with a heavily African-American electorate.

The Sanders camp says that it is their candidate being arrested and dragged away in this 1963 footage. At the time, Sanders was a University of Chicago undergraduate.

Sanders officials say the footage is of Sanders, the New York Times reports. He was purportedly protesting segregationist policies in Englewood, a neighborhood in Chicago.
