Ascendant Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina extended a line of argument tonight that she featured at Wednesday night’s CNN debate: emotionally attacking Planned Parenthood. Referencing the controversial videos that surfaced this summer, and the corresponding looming congressional fight, Fiorina said: “We cannot be a nation that funds this kind of barbarity,” to raucous applause.
Speaking at the Heritage Action Presidential Forum in South Carolina, Fiorina, ranked fifth in the Examiner Power Rankings of GOP candidates, laid in hard to the recent record of the nation’s largest abortion provider.
“If we will not fight for this, if we will not fight for this, faced with proof positive of the butchery that is going on at Planned Parenthood, faced with an assault on the character of the nation, and that is what I believe this is,” Fiorina said.
Fiorina seemed to be sympathetic to those willing to possibly force another government shutdown over the issue of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding.
“With record majorities in the House of Representatives, with a majority in the U.S. Senate, if we do not have the courage to stand up and say ‘President Obama, if you’re prepared to shut down the government to defend this kind of barbarity, have at it'” Fiorina said.
