Speakeasy: Pawlenty’s perfect hindsight

“I don’t know what the future holds for me, but in the meantime I need to and want to work and so I’m looking for some private sector opportunities … I’ve given a lot of my life to public service. I enjoy public service. I love it. I think its very meaningful. But there also comes a time when there’s other things to do in life.”

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, talking to reporters Monday night about his future outside of politics during a hanging of his portrait at the state capital. He also touched on his abrupt withdrawal from the GOP primary in August, admitting that his campaign had run out of money, and if he had he known what the race would become, he would have found the cash to carry on instead of dropping out after the Ames Iowa Straw Poll. “That’s a decision we made and it was the wrong call,” he said.
