Sanders: Clooney ‘honest enough’ for admitting Clinton fundraising ‘obscene’

George Clooney is “honest enough” for admitting the amount of money raised in fundraisers like his is “obscene,” Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.

This weekend, Sanders’ rival Hillary Clinton raised a reported $15 million for her campaign and other Democrats at two fundraisers held by Clooney in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The price of each ticket was $350,000 per person.

Asked in a “Meet the Press” interview that aired Sunday morning to respond to Sanders’ claim that the amount of money raised at these fundraisers is “obscene,” Clooney agreed.

“Yes. I think it’s an obscene amount of money,” he said. “The Sanders campaign, when they talk about it, is absolutely right. It’s ridiculous that we should have this kind of money in politics. I agree completely.”

Sanders said Sunday of CNN’s “State of the Union” he has “a lot of respect for George Clooney’s honesty and integrity on this issue.”

Sanders said Clooney is “honest enough to say there is something wrong when few people … who are able to contribute unbelievably large sums of money. That’s not what democracy is about.”

“The issue” in American politics, Sanders said, is the threat of a government that represents the “One Percent.”

The Sanders campaign has said it has received almost $7 million in individual contributions, with an average donation of $27.
