Clinton adds another Southern win in Louisiana

Hillary Clinton won the Louisiana primary Saturday night, continuing her popularity among Southern voters and increasing her delegate lead over Bernie Sanders.

Going in to Saturday’s primary the former secretary of state led Sanders by nearly 40 points according to RealClearPolitics averages. Clinton’s support in the state is bolstered by her popularity amongst black voters, the demographic that helped her clinch her resounding win in South Carolina.

In the weeks leading up to the primary, both candidates held numerous events at historically black colleges and universities as well as at black churches. But on the campaign trail, the Vermont senator has struggled to gain popularity among black voters despite his previous involvement in the 1960s civil rights movement.

The two candidates will meet on stage Sunday night to debate in Michigan and discuss the Flint water crisis.
