New York Post sadly misquotes Obama on Chuck Todd

Contrary to a New York Post story that delighted some media and political insiders over the weekend, President Obama did not call NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd “sad.”

The Post’s story, which was linked by the Drudge Report, covered Obama’s trip to a Washington, D.C., bookstore, where he bought a few books. After spotting Todd’s recent book The Stranger: Barack Obama in the White House, Obama called Todd “sad,” according to the Post’s erroneous report, written by Kathianne Bonniello.

A video of the actual event shows that’s not what happened. Upon seeing the cover of the book, which features an apparently sulky Obama, the president read the title and said, “Looking sad. Looking alienated. Oh no, he’s sad.”

The woman behind the register said, “He (Todd) tried to find the saddest photo.” Obama replied, “I know.”

Asked to comment on the matter, Todd said, “seems the New York Post should comment. Not me.”

Bonniello, who wrote the story, did not respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment. Her story is still online in its original form.
