On Wednesday night, the main attraction at P.J. Clarke’s was author Adam Mansbach, who wrote the best-selling not-really-for-children’s book “Go the F— To Sleep.”
“I came up with the concept one night after staggering out of my daughter Vivian’s bedroom after like a two-hour marathon attempt to put her to sleep and I posted on Facebook, be on the lookout for my forthcoming children’s book, ‘Go the F— to Sleep,’ which was really just a joke.” Mansbach told Yeas & Nays, between signing copies of the book for a line of Washingtonians. “But as soon as I wrote that, I realized I knew exactly how to write that book, what it would look and sound like, so I sat down a week later and wrote it.”
Since then, the book has been a hit, with actor Samuel L. Jackson stepping in to record the audio book. When it comes to Washington, Mansbach said he’d pick President Clinton to read the tome. “I would love to hear Bill Clinton‘s rendition of the book, actually, I think that would be amazing,” Mansbach said. “Yeah, I think Bill reading this to his future grandchildren would be a beautiful thing.”
Near the end of the party former Rep. Mark Foley strolled into the K Street eatery to have dinner, creating a sideshow effect. Foley, wearing a pastel purple polo shirt, sat down in the dining room with three others.
“His publicist is going to be p—ed off in the morning when they find out he showed up to an obscene fake children’s book signing,” Mansbach joked. “That’s going to be a bad look for him.”
