‘Transformers 3’ still a go in D.C.

Don’t worry, “Transformers” fans, your chance to see Shia LaBeouf and new leading lady Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (who replaced Megan Fox) here in the flesh has not yet slipped away.

“I can tell you that nothing has been finalized yet, but our understanding is that they are still planning on filming in D.C.,” said Josh Friedman, the communications director of D.C.’s Office of Motion Picture and Television Development.

Pictures of the two stars shooting scenes for “Transformers 3” were making the rounds on the Hollywood blogs this week, but the D.C. shoots aren’t expected to happen until mid-September.

The production has hit some snags in recent weeks because filmmakers wanted to shoot a handful of action-packed scenes on the National Mall and other areas that fall under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. Depending on the Park Service’s verdict, the cast and crew could be in town for as long as two weeks or only several days, Friedman explained.

“If they can work things out with the Park Service they would be in town even longer, which would be great for everybody,” Friedman said.

The film’s publicist did not return a call for comment. The National Park Service couldn’t provide information about the permit by press time.
