Donald Trump’s campaign has given away “significantly” more tickets to its special event at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium Thursday night than the facility has room for, according to the university.
Drake University put out a statement an hour before Trump’s 9 p.m. alternative to the Fox News debate, saying college officials have been informed that the GOP front-runner gave away too many tickets.
“Fire code limits occupancy of Sheslow Auditorium to approximately 700 persons. Therefore, based on our understanding of the number of tickets distributed, only a small percentage of ticket holders will be admitted into the auditorium,” according to the press release.
University officials told ticket-holders to plan accordingly, knowing that many will not be able to attend.
Trump announced Wednesday he would forego the seventh Republican debate to hold a fundraiser for veterans organizations two miles away from the Republican National Committee event.
