DES MOINES — Iowa will be getting a taste of the Texas two-step this week as former Gov. Rick Perry will join Sen. Ted Cruz to campaign ahead of Thursday’s Republican debate.
According to a press release, Perry is set to make 10 stops on the campaign trail for Cruz before the debate, with seven of which coming Tuesday as Cruz barnstorms his way through the state in a final push for victory in Iowa.
Of the three events on Wednesday, Perry and Iowa Rep. Steve King will be appearing without Cruz.
Perry made his endorsement official Monday morning after dropping out of the race in September amid fundraising challenges and an inability to get himself on the main debate stage.
The two-time presidential candidate is not the only high profile Republican figure to be appearing in Iowa with Cruz this week. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley is slated to appear with the 2016 hopeful Friday, which will come less than a week after he appeared at an event for Donald Trump, and a day before he is set to do so for Sen. Marco Rubio.
Cruz currently trails Trump by six points, 33-27, in the latest RealClearPolitics average. He is also set to campaign in the state everyday between now and Monday.
