– Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, tweeting about his anxiety over the super committee created by the debt deal passed Tuesday, which Hatch himself voted against after weeks of grueling gridlock between Congressional leaders, saying “[there] are some achievements in this proposal that conservatives can hang their hats on, but I couldn’t support this proposal because it’s not really providing the debt relief the markets are looking for.”
Meanwhile, Hatch teamed with Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., to introduce the “Federal Workforce Reduction and Reform Act of 2011” on Tuesday, which would shrink government spending by $600 billion over 10 years by freezing pay raises and bonuses for federal workers, and cutting 75 percent of the federal workforce travel budget. The bill would also reduce the size of the federal workforce by 15 percent, “which could easily be accomplished through attrition and simple accounting without adding to unemployment,” read the press release.
