Congressman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said he was told by the secretary of homeland security that the man who breached the White House gates was on the grounds long enough to “rattle the door handle” and “look through” a window before he was apprehended.
Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told CNN on Saturday that the breach was a “complete and utter total failure” to protect the White House.
Secret Service has said that the intruder, who made it onto the grounds on March 10, was there for more than 16 minutes before he was apprehended. They said, however, he did not make it inside the residence.
