Sightings: Alice Waters dines at Rasika

Chef Alice Waters was spotted having dinner at Rasika Wednesday night, with Joan Nathan of Martha’s Table and Jan Buhrman of the Kitchen Porch. She ordered the signature palak chaat and a selection of vegetarian dishes.

Waters is in town for an annual event, Sunday Night Suppers, which raises money for both Martha’s Table and D.C. Central Kitchen. Some prominent chefs from the region — and the nation, as well — prepare dinners for 20 guests at Washington homes. The tickets don’t come cheap — they’re $550 — but guarantee a cozy dinner, with top notch chefs, at a beautiful private residence.

The dinners are being served this Sunday with Waters cooking alongside Buhrman and Robert Weland of the popular 14th Street wine bar Cork (the food is obviously great, too). Last year, according to Washingtonian, Justice Sonia Sotomayor showed up at the dinner Waters was preparing. “You never know who you are going to meet, what’s going to unfold, and whom you are going to be seated next to at dinner,” she told the magazine.
