Ian Millhiser, who writes on legal issues for the liberal Think Progress website, said when he heard last week that the FBI found new emails related to Hillary Clinton’s private server, it felt like being diagnosed with cancer.
In a series of Twitter messages on Tuesday, Millhiser called for the firing of FBI Director James Comey and said he fears for the safety of everyone if Republican Donald Trump is elected president.
“If Trump is elected, thousands of people will die every year who otherwise would have lived, because they will lose health care,” he wrote in one message, referring to Trump’s promises to “repeal and replace” Obamacare.
“The moment when I learned of Comey’s letter felt like a doctor telling me that the cancer is back,” he said in another.
Millhiser also suggested that it’s “doubtful” that Trump won’t start a nuclear war.
Comey on Friday sent a public letter to Congress informing it that the FBI found more emails related to Clinton’s private server. They have reportedly surfaced on devices belonging to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner.
Critics, mostly Democrats and Clinton supporters, have accused Comey of deliberately inserting himself into the election as a way to damage the nominee’s standing in the race, which she leads, according to most polls.
