Trump gets South Carolina bump after releasing Muslim policy

Businessman Donald Trump received a bump in South Carolina after unvieling a policy to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., according to a Fox News poll.

The survey has Trump leading with 35 percent among South Carolina Republican primary voters, Ben Carson with 15 percent and Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio at 14 percent each.

More tellingly, Fox released a further breakdown of the poll, suggesting Trump gained momentum after he released his policy on barring Muslim immigration, which drew widespread comdemnation among Democrats and Republicans alike.

“The poll, released Wednesday, was conducted Saturday through Tuesday evenings,” Fox News noted. “Trump made provocative remarks Monday about barring Muslims from entering the United States. It looks like his comments help him in South Carolina. Support for Trump increased eight points after his statement — from 30 percent the first two nights vs. 38 percent the last two nights. The shift is within the margin of sampling error.”

Following the release of his policy statement on Muslim immigration, Trump held a rally in South Carolina in which he received a standing ovation after discussing his plan.
