Red carpet rolled out for ‘Social Safeway’ opening

Would you ever imagine Washingtonians partying in a grocery store? Well, on Wednesday night, they did. And not in their muumuus and Crocs, but in actual cocktail attire.

The red carpet was rolled out and the store’s doors were opened a night early so a select group of prominent D.C. residents could get a sneak peak at the new “Social Safeway,” the store that feeds Georgetown and Glover Park residents.

Guests were instructed to wear cocktail attire and were treated to valet parking, wine at the door and music from a Safeway DJ.

Spotted at the festivities: Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, WJLA’s Leon Harris, Katherine Weymouth and Don Graham of the Washington Post, Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and assistant White House chef Sam Kass.

The new Georgetown Safeway opened Thursday.
