Donald Trump’s wife Melania said Monday she believes her husband “can be presidential” if he sets his mind to it.
The wife of the GOP presidential candidate said she has given him advice about his rhetoric and how to treat the office he is pursuing.
“Well, as we discussed before, I said tweeting and being more presidential,” Mrs. Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in a pre-taped interview that aired late Monday. “And he has, you know, great nights and he can be presidential, but sometimes he cannot stand that somebody attacks him because if somebody attacks him, he will punch back 10 times harder.”
Trump announced Saturday that his wife would be joining him on the campaign trail starting Monday, after recent national polls showed Trump losing ground to fellow Republican candidate Ted Cruz. Melania’s addition to the campaign comes after a rough week for the New York billionaire in which he juggled positions on abortion and had his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski charged for assaulting a reporter.
Melania admitted she has asked her husband to change his rhetoric and stop going after fellow Republican candidate Ted Cruz on Twitter. But the former model said she is not affected by attacks at her.
“I have tough skin,” she said, but added she doesn’t believes it’s “fair” when others go after her family members.
